Higher Copplestone

Influenced by Devon Longhouses, this proposal aims to have an underpinning reference to its rural setting

Single dwelling in the garden of an existing house. The home is a modern interpretation of Devon Longhouse; a traditional rural building which combined human habitation with livestock. The characteristics are in form and layout, and this rural reference back to a historical typology aims to ensure the dwelling is well suited and has an underpinning connection to its setting.

A somewhat simple form has considered buildability from the outset – aiming to use masonry construction, traditional rafters and limiting spans to avoid the need for excessive steel, aiming to ensure the project is viable.
